Hey Pro Organizers, my name is Melissa Klug and you are listening to the Pro Organizer Studio Podcast. Professional organizing changed my entire life. After 20 years of working at huge companies, I started working for myself. I opened a professional organizing business, grew it to six figures, and I never looked back.
Now I get to spend all day, every day, teaching organizers around the world how to find clients, how to market and sell yourselves, how to turn this business into what you want it to be. Whether you have been in business for 15 minutes or 15 years, you have a home at Pro Organizer Studio. I'm excited that you're here.
Let's get started.
Hey pro organizers! It's Melissa. And it is a Monday, January 6th. And I know for a lot of people, this is the first work day of 2025. It's the first Monday obvs. I worked last week. I worked on Thursday and Friday, but if you didn't and you were smart and took a couple of extra days and then have the weekend, this is your first day of 2025. And I want to make it really great.
And I am starting it out with some personal reflection. One of the things that I like to do is to give you what I'm thinking about my own year. I like to pick a word of the year. Last year was consistency. I I did not. I did not execute on the word consistency like I had planned. There were a lot of reasons for that, and I have given myself the grace to let that one go. But this year I am very energized by the things that I have chosen.
There are two different things that I'm going to be talking about. One of the things is going to be about you. And this might connect with you, or it might cause you to go I have no connection with that, but I do really think my word of the year is going to be blah.
Some people are really good at goal setting. I just happen not to be one of them. So this word of the year helps me a little bit to guide my processes. I really, I would love to be the kind of person that is excellent at goal setting. And as a business coach, I should be good at it. And I should be good at teaching you goal setting, but it's just not my forte. And you have to know what you're good at and what you're not.
So I'll let other people do the goal setting by the way, if you're looking for good goal setting. Jon Acuff who wrote the book soundtracks that I've talked about many times. He has a podcast called all it takes is a goal. So he's a great one to listen to, but this, the word of the year concept works for me. And this year I've decided it's like phrase of the year is going to guide my work at Pro Organizer Studio.
I have actually picked not words this year, but phrases. And there are two phrases that I am going with because they mean different things. One of them is going to be personal, how I'm going into the year. And then one of them is going to be. What is my work going to be about this year?
My work both in my own professional organizing business and my work with pro organizer studio.
So I'll start with that one.
This year, we are going to fix your digital foundation.
I have such a passion for this, because I think that there are so many people that miss out on some very low hanging fruit when it comes to getting clients, because of their website because their Google business profile because of other parts of their footprint online, and my passion this year is going to be fixing all of those things for you.
And the reason I want to do this is because I have seen it work. I see it at work every single day in my own organizing business. And in a hundreds of other people's businesses, where we talk about this all the time our Inspired Organizer members. And I just want everyone to know these things that can make getting clients so much more effective.
And I am hoping that we can do that for you this year.
So that is going to guide my work at Pro Organizer Studio. I'm going to be rolling out. Lots of things to help you. We are going to be doing some mini courses. We are going to be doing some essentially bootcamps. Lots of different things that are going to be coming out about fixing your digital presence and your footprint online so that you can find clients that is always the bottom line.
Anything that we talk about here, anything that we do is in the service of keeping your business thriving and keeping you in a place that you can continue to do the business and feel good about it. So that's Pro Organizer Studio.
The next thing I say, it's a personal thing, but it's definitely going to bleed into professional because it's, it's hard to hard to keep those two things separate. So one of the things that I have personally going on this year is, uh, this is the year that I turn 50 years old, which is crazy. It's crazy to me and I, um, first of all, I'm very Zen about that birthday.
I'm just going to be like, we're embracing it and, and it is what it is because it's just the passage of time. But one of the things that I have actually loved it, and I've talked to people a lot about this, in my forties, I really felt like I kind of came into a little bit more of who I am. I found the career that was meant for me. I found pro organizer studio.
I had like a lot of life changes in my forties. It's a, it was a crazy decade. You guys. But as I'm starting to turn 50, I really am starting to realize a few key things about myself. Sometimes personal growth takes a long time. You guys, five decades. And this is definitely a part of a personal journey, but it's a professional one as well. There is a word that is vastly overused and the word is authentic. But it's really about me wanting to be a little bit more authentic in how I present myself and how I come across.
And so here is a little bit more of my personal slash professional goal.
Because it guides a lot of the work that happens. In fixing your digital foundation. One of the things that I think is so incredibly important. It's one of the Hills I will die on for organizers is to really come across with a personality.
So whatever your personality is on your website, your online presence, in your digital properties.
And one of the things that I've really wanted to be honest with myself about is. There are still times that I button myself up or I'm not totally myself.
And I'm not going to go into all the deep thinking that I have had on the subject since last year, because it would be boring. But one of the things that I decided is going to be a phrase that I take into this year is just be yourself. There are still times that I kind of stuff myself and my personality down because I think, oh, that may not connect with everyone. That type of thing. And I've decided this year, I'm just gonna really be myself. You guys have seen it and you have heard it, but I am just going to be me.
I am a people pleaser. And one of the things that I struggle with personally is I just want to make sure that everyone is connecting and you know what, in my organizing business, I've said this on many occasions, I might not be the right organizer for you. So I might not be the right business coach for you.
There are lots of people out there. I want you to find the person that you connect with, but I want to show you a little bit more about who I really am. And so you're going to see probably a lot more humor on my Instagram for Pro Organizer Studio. You might see things and be like, wow, I'm not really sure what she's thinking about there.
Of course, what I hope is that you'll go, man, it makes me like her even more. But if it doesn't that's okay too, because I just want you to find the right person that you connect with to help you in your business. And I would love for it to be me, but if I'm not your cup of tea, that's okay, too. And that goes the same in my organizing business.
And I hope that goes to the same in your organizing business. When you try to be everything to everyone. It doesn't work. So I want you to just be you. I will just be me. And I think that that's going to connect so much with people.
Every year that you grow in entrepreneurship. I was going to say that you earn more of a right, but it's not about earning the right. It's just that you get more comfortable in your own. Beliefs and feelings, and it gives you that ability and that confidence that you can be more of who you are. And I am going into my eighth year of entrepreneurship and I am ready to just really kind of embrace exactly who I am and go with my gut.
So that is what this year is going to be about. I hope that you are excited. I have so many fun things going to be making some announcements in the next few days. So many exciting things.
I hope you're along for the ride. And I would love to hear what your word of the year is or phrase of the year or multiple phrases of the year. Please send me an email. DM me on Instagram. Uh, however you want to get in touch with me, but I would love to hear what you're doing this year. All right.
I will be back later this week with the first entry into I'm just going to be me. With a new podcast. Ah, maybe you'll see it tomorrow. Maybe you'll see it Wednesday. We'll see. But I hope you have a great week. Organizers go slay the first week of January.
